POPIA Notice

Effective: May 13, 2026 · Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013 (South Africa)

1. Responsible Party

Thumber is the Responsible Party for personal information collected via the Thumber platform. Information Officer: info-officer@thumber.app.

2. The 8 conditions for lawful processing

1. Accountability — we have a registered Information Officer and PAIA Manual.
2. Processing limitation — minimum data, lawful, with consent or other s.11 basis.
3. Purpose specification — only collected for the purposes in our Privacy Policy.
4. Further processing limitation — no incompatible secondary use.
5. Information quality — kept accurate; you may correct via Settings → Account.
6. Openness — this notice + the Privacy Policy disclose all processing.
7. Security safeguards — encryption, access controls, breach response under s.22.
8. Data subject participation — you may access, correct, delete (see s.23–25).

3. Special personal information

Thumber does not solicit special personal information (race, health, religion, biometrics, sex life, criminal behaviour) except where you voluntarily disclose it in profile or content. We do not process the personal information of children under 13 (or under the parental-consent threshold in your jurisdiction).

4. Cross-border transfers (s.72)

Personal information may be transferred outside South Africa to processors that provide adequate protection contractually equivalent to POPIA, including providers in the EU, UK and USA.

5. Direct marketing (s.69)

We only send direct marketing with your prior opt-in consent. You may withdraw consent at any time in Settings → Notifications, or by replying STOP / unsubscribing.

6. Your rights

• Confirmation of whether we hold information about you (s.23).
• Access to that information.
• Correction or deletion of inaccurate, irrelevant, excessive or out-of-date data (s.24).
• Object to processing on reasonable grounds (s.11(3)).
• Submit a complaint to the Information Regulator.
